So today they gave me a farewell at work. Not the fun work, where I make up stuff--the day job, where "making up stuff" is strongly, vehemently, violently discouraged. It was nice to hear the weird things people remember you for, but it also brings home what mistaken impressions people have. I don't correct these mistaken impressions--you can read into that whatever you like--but it's not a big deal. Many of these people I'll never see again. Some may have earned a violent death in some far future story, and some may be heroes in other stories. Everyone we know, ever, adds dimension to our characters. It may be something about a person as subtle as a poker-tell, a tic, or it may be as obvious as stupidity, or hatred.
Either way, they gave me a send off. It's a chapter closing. I look forward to starting the next one.
